Ghana Announces a 46-Day Visa-on-Arrival Opportunity For Christmas Visitors
Ghana has implemented a visa-on-arrival program that will be effective for 46 days, from December 1, 2023, to January 15, 2024.
This initiative is a component of the Ghana government's 'Beyond The Return' campaign, which aims to inspire Africans in the diaspora to discover and reconnect with Ghana. The goal is to establish Ghana as a top choice for individuals of African heritage.
The collaboration of various government departments, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry for the Interior, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana Tourism Authority, has resulted in the authorization of the visa-on-arrival program.
The Ministry of Transport stressed the need to update systems to reflect the new arrangement and advised those responsible for checking in passengers heading to Ghana not to require entry visas beforehand.
Ayorkor Botchwey, the Foreign Affairs Minister, recently stated that Ghana is seriously considering allowing all Africans and people of African descent in the diaspora to enter the country without a visa.
Currently, only Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin allow visa-free entry for all African citizens. This move is in line with Ghana's broader efforts to strengthen ties with the diaspora.
By exploring this possibility, the government aims to boost tourism, facilitate cultural exchange, and celebrate the shared heritage of people of African descent worldwide.
