Parliament of Zimbabwe Relocates to New Parliament Building
The Parliament of Zimbabwe, under the leadership of Mr Kennedy Chokuda, the clerk of Parliament, has officially begun the process of relocating from its current building in the Central Business District (CBD) to the New Parliament Building situated in Mt Hampden.
The announcement was issued in a statement signed by the clerk. Part of the statement reads;
“This historic relocation follows the successful handover of the New Parliament Building by the People’s Republic of China to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, who subsequently handed it over to the Speaker of Parliament The New Parliament is a magnificent and imposing edifice that symbolizes the enduring cultural heritage, abiding values, hopes, aspirations and achievements of the Zimbabwean people.”
The statement further states that the relocation process is expected to take approximately two weeks, commencing today, Monday, October 30, 2023. During this period, some parliamentary services may experience temporary interruptions or delays. However, the Parliament of Zimbabwe is committed to ensuring that essential services continue to be delivered, with personnel stationed at both the CBD and the New Parliament Building offices.
While the relocation process may lead to some inconveniences, the Parliament extends its apologies to all stakeholders and the general public and requests their understanding during this transitional phase.
