Visa Free Travel, Uganda and DR Congo Signs Agreement
The government of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have agreed to abolish the visa requirements to allow visa-free travel between each country.
The agreement was decided on during the 8th Joint Permanent Commission ( JPC ) between both countries on October 14th, in DR Congo capital, Kinshasa.
The agreement is aimed at easing the movement of people and strengthening trade between the two countries.
John Mulimba, the state Minister for Foreign Affairs for Regional Cooperation praised the Uganda government in the area of peace and security.
He said “Through our bilateral cooperation, we are well placed to build our national economy and contribute to the economic recovery of our region and the continent and it is essential that our mutually beneficial economic ties and investment flows grow within our two countries as these are the foundation for intra- regional trade and investment.”
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has for months been advocating for visa-free entry between the two countries, stating in May that officials from both countries should speed up the process of introducing visa-free travel.
Both Ugandan and Congolese nationals have previously complained about paying high visa fees at border crossings.
